NAM

Have you ever seen death in such a way

That it comes back to haunt you every day

Bodies that look like they’re just asleep

Blood spattered children that make you weep

It’s just another product of a bloody war

Where soldiers die on a foreign shore

Where innocent people get caught in the fight

In a struggle to prove that each cause is right

Shoulder to shoulder, brave men must die

The reasons we know are all just a lie

In a place where grown men sit and weep

Then count dead bodies in their sleep

We knew in our hearts that we shouldn’t be there

The people that sent us just don’t seem to care

We carried out orders and shot them at will

Peace loving people trained to kill

We may return to our dark place

Then once again our nightmares face

Not to fight, but to be as one

To a place we’ll always call Saigon

Inspired by the film “Going Back”

After the fall of South Vietnam to communism in 1975, the city and many of its inhabitants were in a state of chaos and turmoil. In 1976, the new government renamed the city Ho Chi Minh City and shut its door to the rest of the world. Although recognized world wide as Ho Chi Minh City, to the people of Vietnam, the city is still lovingly referred to as Saigon
