My Valkyrie

The battle’s lost

I’m dying fast

And blood is everywhere

I look towards the darkened sky

And see a chariot of gold appear

Two large cats pull it through the sky

The maiden aboard has golden locks

Her eyes are blue and her skin so white

Her gold breastplate gleams from a shaft of sunlight

The Valkyrie is here

She searches for heroes

For those who died bravely in battle

If she chooses me, she’ll look into my eyes

And whisk me away to Valhalla

Where I’ll practice my fighting and live like a king

Until the dawn of Ragnarok

My Valkyrie sits high up on my arm

She keeps me from evil and from all harm

But when my turn comes, I’m ready to go

Although war is for fools and death can come slow

For those who need an explanation; a short introduction to Norse mythology:

Sent by ”Aesir”, the Valkyrie were armed women warriors who rode through the sky, chose those soldiers who had died valiantly on the battlefield and took them to Valhalla (our idea of heaven?) where they practiced fighting and partying until Ragnarok (the end of the world).
