A New Day Dawns

A new day dawns

The red sunrise

A nation yawns

With cloudless skies

It’s nature’s way to say get up

and then be on our way

I spill my tea and drop the cup

Oh no; I’ve not got time today

The dog’s got out

The cat’s unfed

The fridge’s up the spout

and the hamster’s dead

I wash and dress to look the part

I’m ready for my work

Oh no; the bloody car won’t start

I’m feeling such a berk

I must keep calm and not crack up

and take things in my stride

Why did I bother to get up

I want to run and hide

I know; I’ll just go back to bed

and hide myself away

I’ll just pretend the day’s unread

and await a brand new day
