We , the family, progressed with the technology through the 'BBC' and the Amstrad PC1640 , 286 , 386's and now we run a Pentium together with a couple of 486's.
We have a flatbed scanner and still use the original PC1640 connected up to the amateur radio packet network.
I have used the PC1640 to contact the MIR space station as it also operates an amateur packet system.
