21/21: G6GVI's anniversary party on the air

Remember when the Home Office used to issue our licences? After a four-month wait, we got our details hand-written on a 7-page photocopy - but good value at only £8!

Easter Monday, 21st April 2003, was the 21st anniversary of my very first radio transmissions, and so on the Bank Hoilday Monday afternoon, I was on Winter Hill, along with Norman G4YNK, operating on 2m and HF, trying to contact as many familiar voices as possible.

Matchmoor Lane: G6GVI/P on 2m and G4YNK/P on 40m

I had renewed my old B licence (which had been QRT for seven years) especially for the occasion, and so was operating G6GVI/P on 2m FM, while Norman manned G4YNK/P on 40m SSB.

During the day, I managed to meet up with the following stations, either on air or in person:
Kevan G4PMV (ex-G8WTS)
Gary G0TBW (ex-G6NZD)
Elaine G6YQI
Jack G8HIK (aka M3ANP)
Bill G4RIG (ex-G6ERK)
Steve G4RWS (ex-G6JSY)
Bob G6GVG
Shaun G7IEI
Eric G4FSN
Piers G4XML
Norman G4YNK (ex-G6CNM)
Ken G8BEQ
Alan G4GFD
Paul G7IZX
Several of whom braved the strong winds on Winter Hill to come up and see me in person, in Steve's case bringing a unique transceiver with him:

The extraordinary set brought along by Steve G4RWS. Yes, that is a power-drill chuck used as a tuning knob! (A 3000 channel-per-minute scanning attachment is available, with optional hammer-mode!)

I also spoke on 2m to the following stations for the first time:
M3CEY in Bolton
G0OXY/P on Billinge Hill
G3NSY in Shrewsbury
MW1EYO/P on a Welsh mountain
G8VPR in Cannock
MW0YLS near Wrexham
M3BPT in Westhoughton, Bolton

I would like to thank Norman G4YNK for his support, particularly in running the 40m station whilst I was on 2m.

He worked the following stations, using his IC706IIG into an inverted-V dipole:
GM0KET in Aberdeen
2E0KJP in NW Birmingham
EI8GY in Shannon
G3EGC in Egerton, Bolton

My thanks to all who contributed to turning Matchmoor Lane into "Memory Lane" for the afternoon!
