Welcome to the Flight Refuelling Amateur Radio Society web site. The society's members are amateur radio enthusiasts living in the Bournemouth, Poole and Wimborne areas of East Dorset, on the south coast of the UK.
QRA (locator) is IO90AS at Merley, Wimborne Dorset. See G4RFR on the QRZ site
The club was founded in 1982 by 'hams' who worked for the Flight
Refuelling Company in Wimborne, and they adopted the name of the
company. Membership is open to anyone interested in radio and
communication, who can also benefit from associate membership of
the F.R. sports and social club, in whose grounds the club
HQ is situated.
The main club meetings are held on Wednesday evenings, but the HF and VHF shacks are also available for use during the Sunday social evenings, as well as Wednesdays.
Regular RAE and NRAE courses are held for aspiring amateurs, and
we hold a very popular Hamfest Rally on the second Sunday
of August each year, in the sports and social club grounds. In
addition we enjoy contest activities including VHF/UHF field days,
and a varied lecture programme. Workshop facilities are available
for kit construction and 'home-brewing'.
Come and visit us if you are on vacation in the Bournemouth area or
want to learn more about ham radio - visitors are always welcome
here. If on 2 metres, call us on GB3SC - we have over 50 members
ready to make you feel at home !
