GM4OBK SOTA Activation Norman's Law
SS-262 22nd June 2005

After leaving Mount Hill we made our way towards Norman's Law by car. This hill, overlooking the Tay estuary, had never been activated for SOTA before. We parked near Ayton Hill at GR NO297196 and found our way up to the top of the hill via an unsatisfactory route. When we came down we found a more satisfactory one. If you do park near Ayton Hill take the track into the forest at NO299197. On entering the forest after 300 metres the track turns left. If you look right you see another track leading to the edge of the forest at a horse hurdle. Take this track and turn left at the hurdle to follow the fence line up to the top of Norman's Law. There are other ways to get up the hill - Jim G0CQD I know has found another route.

It's a fine view from the top as you can see, with a great view of Dundee and the Tay estuary. It's a very green hilltop, used for sheep grazing. We set up once again for 2m operation using the FT-817 and SOTA beam. Best DX was the first QSO with Don G0NES:

After the two successful activations we headed back to our B&B at Spinkstown Farmhouse, near St. Andrews, which I can highly recommend.
