G4OBK SOTA Activation Ros Hill SB-009 25th June 2005

After our unique morning activation of Linton Hill (GM/SS-263), we had lunch at a lousy cafe in Wooler, and made our way to the National Trust lands of Ros Hill (315m ASL).

For extensive information on Ros Hill see the excellent web page by Jim G0CQK:

This really is an easy hill to activate, plenty of parking on the grass verges and only a 10 minute climb to the top. The picture shows me operating in the shelter of the walled section at the summit. The views through 360 degrees were superb and the short clamber up is popular with walkers and passers by who fancy a bit of fresh air, so expect visitors at the weekend.

2m was successful in terms of QSOs, but 40m SSB was disappointing with only one QSO, raised by calling the station concerned. CQ calls produced nothing.

QSOs on 2m SSB:
G4JZF G0NES G1EYD G0EXO G6BIA

QSOs on 2m FM:
2E0AZS/P (S2S TW-002) M1BTG M3RVY/P M0KLL M0GAE

QSO on 40m SSB:
G6PZ

The SOTA Beam was used on 2m, and a 40m dipole on 40m. Rig was the usual FT-817 with 5 watts output. After 70 minutes operating, including chatting to curious bystanders, we packed up and returned to North Yorkshire after an enjoyable short break in Scotland.

Five SOTA activations were completed during that week.
