RSGB HF Championship Winner 1989

The late Ron Glaisher G6LX is pictured in 1990 presenting me with the G2QT Cup the last time I won the
RSGB HF Contest Championship. I got my Ham Ticket in 1982 and used HF Contests in particular to
improve my operating skill in sending and receiving morse code at speeds in excess of 30 words per minute. At
the time this picture was taken I was living in Lancashire. My station then consisted of a 60 foot tower,
KLM KT34XA Tribander for HF, dipoles for 40 and 80m and an inverted L for 160m. I had recently discovered that
the 'WARC' bands were great fun and I had done some 6m operation using a home brew transverter after
I received a special permit in 1985. The job I had then meant I had every weekend
off and that fitted in well with Contesting.
