MB7INO-L

North Oxfordshire

Echolink Node# 277635
Internet Gateway
145.2875 MHz Simplex
118.8 Hz CTCSS
Serving Banbury and the surrounding area

MB7INO may be subject to disruption for a few weeks from 16 May 2008 due to re-wiring works

The MB7INO-L Internet Gateway is located in the village of Aynho, overlooking the market town of Banbury in North Oxfordshire and operated on behalf of the Banbury Amateur Radio Society. The gateway site is 400ft asl with excellent VHF/UHF paths north and south along the valley of the River Cherwell.

MB7INO-L uses a FT2800M, running 5W, and a colinear at 30ft agl.  A CTCSS tone of 118.8Hz is required to open the gateway.  Coverage is generally solid for mobiles within 15 miles of the Gateway, and for handhelds in and around the town of Banbury, which is the designed service area.

Note:  Connections will not be accepted from Users attempting to access the Gateway direct from a computer.  An RF connection is required at both ends of the link.

20 December 2004 - G4KNM-L on air as an attended gateway for the first time

19 March 2005 - G4KNM-L gateway moved to a dedicated computer

9 June 2005 - New soundcard fitted - improved audio quality

24 December 2005 - G4KNM-L became MB7INO-L with unattended operation

26 March 2006 - Transmitter changed to FT2800M with 118.8Hz CTCSS.  Power increased to 5W

Feedback on link quality is gratefully received at g4knm@arrl.net

Making a call with  Echolink

  1. First determine the DTMF code for the user you wish to call or the link or repeater gateway you wish to reach.  A list of MB7INO's shortcuts appears below and a full list of connected stations appears here.  Contact G4KNM to have extra shortcuts programmed.

  2. Ensure that the MB7INO gateway is operational by keying a "*" DTMF tone. The gateway node will respond with status information.

  3. Press the PTT and key in the four or five digit DTMF code for the user, link or repeater that you wish to link to or select one of the random link choices listed below.

  4. If the link was successful, after a few seconds delay, the gateway will respond with a "Connected" message. If the link was not successful, key a "#" to disconnect the gateway.

  5. Following a successful connection, announce your presence on the linked node by calling CQ, etc.

  6. During a QSO using linked repeaters, let the transmit tail completely drop before transmitting to avoid any timeout problems. On MB7INO this is indicated by a courtesy tone

  7. At the end of the QSO, disconnect the link by keying a "#" DTMF tone. The gateway will respond with confirmation that the link has been disconnected.

Note:  Answering a call made through the gateway is just like a simplex QSO - no DTMF is needed.  Just remember to wait for the courtesy tone before replying.
