Computing

My interests in computing go back to the early 80's, initially with machine code on 6800, 6809, 6502 and Z80 processors. I designed and built quite a lot of hardware around these processors - long before surface mounted chips and spectacles got in the way. These days I tend to use mostly C and C++ for the SCO UNIX or Win98/NT4 operating systems. For database work I use Informix under UNIX and Access with NT4.

I use Microsoft's operating systems at work and at home for Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Net access etc. However, I still prefer UNIX for demanding applications. It gives better performance and vastly superior stability to NT4 in critical business applications such as accounts. Unlike Microsoft's so called 'Industrial Strength' operating system it doesn't fall apart every week with memory leaks. Both systems have their merits and I believe a mixture of the two OS's is best. MS for the GUI intensive desktop apps acting as a user friendly front end to the heavy duty UNIX stuff.
