Please Note. |
2024 RAFARS AOTA Activations RAFARS ongoing AOTA event with operator certification based upon contacting establishimemts where RAF personnel served, activated on all of the amateur bands, runs annually 1st January to 31st December. In addition to ad hoc activations, the prime AOTA activity period this year will be from Saturday 23rd March untill Sunday 7th April, covering three weekends / two full weeks. The three weekend periods hopefully will allow once again more stations to be active during this period and slots around the Easter period. RAFARS will be activating a number of "RAF" callsigns, some from current or old air stations. Amateurs and members are invited to contact as many "RAF" callsigns, from as many locations during the entire year of 2024. It is hoped that ALL “RAF” callsigns will also be active during this years prime period. It is expected that call signs linked with RAF Cosford and RAF Halton will be active also along with others during these dates. Please remember that all "RAF" callsigns are to be QSL'd via the RAFARS QSL Manager, Andrew 2E0NDZ except for G8FC contacts, which are to be sent direct to RAFARS HQ at Cosford, details as stated on QRZ.com. {NB. EVEN THOUGH WE STILL HAVE SOME COVID AND FLU AROUND, THIS YEAR WE WILL REVERT TO "ACTIVATING" A STATION DIRECTLY OR FROM A MILE OR THERE ABOUTS AWAY FROM THE PRECISE LOCATION. PLEASE BEAR IN MIND THAT RATHER THAN JUST A STRAIGHT FORWARD QSO, IT IS HOPED YOU CAN GIVE SOME HISTORY AND INFORMATION ON THE STATION THAT YOU ARE ACTIVATING. REMEMBER THE PURPOSE OF AOTA IS TO COMMEMORATE THE STATIONS AND THE PERSONELL WHO SERVED}. Please remember the emphasis of AOTA is to 'Activate' in a radio sense, current or former RAF (Ministry of Defence or its predecessors) stations, airfields, radio/radar sites, landing strips, including landing waters; located in Great Britain & Northern Ireland, dating from 1914 to current times. Also we need to remember the ATC Cadets will be having an exercise called 'Blue Ham' again in conjunction with amateurs in the 5 mhz band. Dates to be ......... (Will be updated when I am able to obtain them) Hopefully many ATC Cadet stations will be on air and we do need to encourage these young people into amateur radio. So if you hear a Cadet station give them a call. ....(Repeated from index page) For the first time RAFARS have decided to include DATA and AM modes in the activations. For this first year PSK, and FT8, RTTY and Olivia will be accepted. It is appreciated that virtually no airfield information can be given, but hopefully the recipient station is able to look up your callsigns, which will hopefully also be on the RAFARS website.
AIRFIELD ACTIVATIONS Please note the activating stations below in colour Purple, are ex or current RFC/RAF Service Stations with a SES callsign that may be working on many days through out the year. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
