Pictures of G3YKI 10 GHz Omnidirectional Antenna
The Antenna
A standard flange ( which was on the wave guide before I started
) makes a convenient way of mounting the antenna.
The bracket adapts this to fit the roof bar of my car.
The Feedpoint
For my purpose a right angle connection was required. The
inner conductor of the 0.25 inch semi-rigid cable is bent round
to form the coupling probe.
Length and diameter of the probe do not appear to be very critical.
During testing an SMA connector was attached directly here.
When mounted on the
car a radome protects the antenna from water. This was made from
domestic plumbing plastic pipe, about 1.25 inch diameter. A test
in the microwave oven shows that the material is not excessively
lossy, (at 2.4 GHz anyway)
Tuning Screw
A fine thread is desirable on the tuning screw, as the antenna
has a small bandwidth.
I believe the radiating holes, probe, and tuning screw are all
effectively in parallel, being spaced along the waveguide at half-wave
intervals. Alternative positions for probe and tuning screw should
work just as well.
