7 July 2008 ROCKET DAY and LOTTERY GRANT
Following on from the briefing in the Club on Wednesday 2nd July, it was
decided that, due to lack of volunteers and the weather which was forecast,
the station would not be set up in the school playing-field but in the
Science Lab (Room 4) on the ground floor of the School. By doing this, we
were able to use the existing Doublet antenna in situ and relocate the
station equipment from the Shack to Room 4. Members were to assemble in
the Shack on Saturday at 8.30 a.m. Having carried the necessary equipment -
transceivers, PSUs, etc and rerouted the output of the Doublet through the
window of the Science Lab, the station was QRV before the start-time of
Rocket Day - 10.00 a.m. Those members who attended and were involved in the
re-location, operating, meeting the public and dismantling were G4AIU/Eugene,
G0PSE/Tom, G4JZL/Jeremy, M0AID/Kelvin, G0UOG/David, G3WNI/Bill and
G0EYR/Peter.
Whilst operating SSB on 80 metres, Kelvin had a QSO with the Chairman of
the Newbury Club. Kelvin had recently generated interest in the Club
(as reported on the Reflector) in applying for a Lottery Grant and had
discovered the Newbury Club had put in a successful bid for a grant.
The QSO served as a good link between the two clubs so that we may learn
from their experience.
3 June 2008 The family of the late Doug Hall have agreed to Doug's wishes and his call-
sign, G5JJ, has been passed on to the Club. The necessary paperwork has
been completed and G5JJ is now the TADARC callsign.
7 May 2008 The Exmouth Amateur Radio Club are holding an "Electronic and Radio Auction,
Bring and Buy and BBQ" at the Scout Hut, Marpool Hill on Wednesday 7th May
at 7.30 pm. For further details, Email Dean (Chairman) g0uil@eclipse.co.uk
15 November 2007 The TADARC webpage is delighted to announce the formation of a Reflector
for the club. The webpage has been running for several years now, but a
webpage is strictly 'One-Way-Traffic' when it comes to disseminating in-
formation. A Reflector allows the airing of views and opinions by all
members - which must be a good thing for the club. I (Tom/G0PSE your
web-master) have joined the TADARC-members Reflector and I recommend it
to other club members. The Moderator is Kelvin Marsh / M0AID.
To join the TADARC Members Reflector you will need to send a blank message
to: tadarc-members-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
Full instructions will be sent by return. Once subscribed, the address
to contact all other members is tadarc-members@yahoogroups.com.
Note, this is not replacing the TADARC webpage but adding a service and
a facility to all members. It's yours to use.
The News Item which follows this one would be a good candidate for
a Reflector.
15 November The following is an extract from an E-mail to Bill/G3WNI :
" ... Bill don`t know if anyone might be interested at the club
- I have a Transformer/Smoothing Cap/Large heat sink from a
Ten-Tec power Supply, FREE to anyone who wants it - plus a PC
PSU - CDROM and Floppy drive but they would have to collect from
Holford Tel:-01278 741527 or e-mail e.mcpheat@virgin.net.
Cheers/73 Mac/G4OEC ... "
15 November Having sat the RSGB Advanced exam on Sunday 14th October, Pete Newton,
Roy McDermott and Pete Hull have been informed that they all passed.
Pete Newton's callsign is M0GSN, Roy McDermott's is M0GFO and Pete Hull
has yet to apply for his new call. Congratulations to those who passed
and also to their Course Tutor, Mike Coles.
3 October The Club's Annual General Meeting of 2006/07 was held in the Club Room at
St. Augustine's School. The attendance was 15 with apologies for non-
attendance from a further four members.
The Minutes of the AGM, the Chairman's and Treasurer's Reports plus the Club's
Accounts will apear here shortly.
Saturday 22 Sept. Club members set up a station in the Beacon Field at the Huish
Wood Camp site. 100 years ago, Baden-Powell and a group of scouts
had their first camp, so this was to commemorate the centenary of
the event. See below for photos taken by Pete Newton.

Friday 14 Sept. The funeral of Maurice Pridmore/2E0HJZ took place in Taunton today.
Maurice had a 'good send-off' and the Club was well represented by
Philip/M3PDD, Eugene/G4AIU, Tony/G6TWA and Tom/G0PSE.
Tues. 10 July TADARC's involvement with the School on 'Rocket Day' was a great
success. After two weeks of rain, we were very fortunate to enjoy a
day of sunshine. The station consisted of two tent-type gazebos
loaned by members. One gazebo was the HF station and the other housed
the 2m, 4m, 6m and 70cm station. A ten metres high sectional pole
was erected next to the gazebos to support the antennas. On top of
the pole was the VHF colinear vertical. Also at the top of the
pole was a pulley which supported the HF Doublet antenna. The ends
of the Doublet were supported by conveniently sited trees at the
edge of the playing field.
Once operating started, we received quite a number of visitors who
showed an interest in our activity and there was at least one firm
enquiry from a member of the public about how he could become a
radio amateur.
Thanks to the involvement of the members who turned up, the day was
both successful and enjoyable. Although setting up the station was
a time consuming business, once 3.00 pm came ( closure of the School's
event) we were able to dismantle everything and leave the site as we
had found it in a mere 45 minutes.
Pete Newton took several photos which he has kindly passed on to me.
