October 2004 UHF Contest
Despite wind and rain on the Saturday, conditions were slightly above average for this contest, providing new squares on 13cm and 9cm with DL3IAS. Some signals from PA0 were aided by rainscatter on 6/3cm during Saturday, but it did not help on longer paths to DL.
Aircraft scatter was good on 23cm with OK2KKW peaking very nicely, and DX such as GM4LBV (IO86) DF9IC/DK9IP (JN48) and DL0GTH (JO50) were also worked. 13cm was very good during the first part of the contest, I was using a dedicated 80cm offset dish which avoided a lot of the antenna pointing compared with the usual system which has 12 degrees of squint on 13cm. I had almost as many QSOs on 13cm in the first 4 hours as on 23cm.Lots of the regulars in the UK and PA0 seemed to be missing this year, and all bands sounded very quiet beaming inland into the UK.
Gotaways included OK1KIR on 70cm, and DJ5BV/DL0RTA on 3cm.
