May 2007 UHF Contest
Family commitments limited participation this year, and I started out just looking for DX and not expecting to submit an entry. Conditions on Saturday were interesting, with the LA4SHF beacon audible on 23cm from the start and OZ1UHF coming up during the evening, along with DB0VC. Hepburn was showing possible paths to Northern Spain and this was confirmed by working EA1FDI/P on 70cm. Unfortunately the propagation in that direction was not good enough for 23cm. Towards the North East SK7MW was very loud on 23cm, and was worked on 4 bands without much difficulty. On the Sunday morning the opening favoured Northern then central Germany, with many loud signals on 70 and 23cm. Highlights on 23cm were LA3EQ (JO28), SK7MW and SM7ECM (JO65), OZ1CTZ and OZ9ZZ (JO46), OZ2LD (JO54), DC6UW (JO44), DK6AS (JO52), DK1CB (JO53), DL0GTH (JO50), DM7A, OK2KKW, DG5NFF (JO60), DF6IY (JN48), and DR6A (JN59). On 13cm the best were SK7MW, OZ1CTZ, OZ2LD, DK6AS, DK1CB, DL0GTH, and DM7A. 9cm was not as good, with the best being GD0EMG which took 20 minutes on aircraft scatter on Sunday afternoon. We also exchanged signals on 6cm but ran out of time to complete a contact. On 6cm, OZ1CTZ was worked in addition to SK7MW. Most stations on 3cm were under 400km, apart from DK2MN (JO32) and DJ6JJ (JO31), plus SK7MW. Overall an interesting contest and I wish I could have been on for more than a few hours.
