July 2004 VHF National Field Day
VHF NFD is a portable station contest in the UK on the bands up to 1.3GHz. I went on to give away some points and work a few continentals on the higher bands. Conditions this year were very poor, with 70cm sounding almost empty a lot of the time, and very strong winds on Saturday made antenna pointing difficult. There was some rainscatter which gave a few contacts on 10GHz, but only out to 300-400km. I was pleased to complete an aircraft scatter QSO with OK2KKW on 23cm in about 15 minutes. DF0YY were a very good signal on 70cms on Sunday afternoon but had no 23cm operator which was a pity. OZ1ALS/P (JO44) were heard on 23cm but too weak to work, as was DK6AS (JO52) on 13cm
