This server has the ability to duplicate any number of identical messages after
reception of one uniquely addressed message to a certain server callsign. It works in a
similar manner to my CARBON server, but with some differences.
The ListServer is designed to allow a number of discussion groups to exist on an F6FBB
BBS. Members of the group send private messages to the server and this will result in
individual private messages containing identical text to be sent to all subscribing
members of the discussion group.
Members of the group may subscribe or unsubscribe themselves by sending appropriately
formatted messages. Other than setting up the groups in the first case, the server can
function without any SysOp intervention. The concept here is one of unmoderated use. No
restrictions are placed on the material sent to the server or upon which stations may or
may not subscribe. If you require a more rigid control over these matters it is suggested
that you install and maintain my CARBON server program.
The program allows control of the user list by one or more SysOps. A SysOp may be either
the normal BBS operator or a remote user who has been granted facilities to modify the
user database. These privileges do not allow the remote user to do any more than change
MYLIST user databases. Therefore there is no compromise to overall system security
Remote control is achieved by simple pasword protected packet messages..
Messages sent to any list may be optionally archived to a SysOp specified directory. A
separate directory can be used for each list and may be configured on a list by list
basis. Filenames comprise of the senders callsign with an incremented extension. (e.g.
G3WCS.001, G3WCS.002, etc. etc.)
One MYLIST server may send a message to another server on a distant BBS. This daisy-chaining allows just one message to be sent over the network to generate several local personal copies.
The duplication of 7PLUS files may be allowed or disallowed by simple SysOp configuration. This may be done on a list by list basis, with some lists permitting and some lists preventing 7PLUS duplication.
The same callsign (but at a different BBS) may be subscribed. This is to allow message feed to servers with the same name on other BBS's. (e.g. RAYNET@GB7DEE, RAYNET@GB7OSP, RAYNET@GB7EDN)
The software will run on all versions of FBB for DOS or Windows.
