San Javier (Murcia Airport) to Mazarron

From Murcia San Javier get onto the motorway and head south for Cartagena.

This motorway will take you into the city and once there, follow it straight on as far as you can (several sets of lights and keep in the right hand lane if you can unless blocked, typically by stopped buses or vans) until you get to a fairly large roundabout.

Take the first right exit (it will be signposted to Mazarrón).

Go up this road in the left hand lane preferably for about a kilometre, maybe less, when you turn left, again signposted to Mazarrón.

Follow this road round a couple of bends until it starts to go up hill very slightly. You then have a choice.

The 'main' road is a right turn off towards Talante. This road is OK and goes all the way to Puerto de Mazarrón but is 7-8 km longer than the preferred route which is to continue on the road in Cartagena to the top of the 'hill' when you come to a roundabout (big trees in the middle).

Take the first right out of the city on which you'll gradually go up hill for several kilometers and through a couple of villages before coming to the mountains.

For a few kilometres before coming to Isla Plana you have some reasonably sharp down hill turns. If you do this in the day time the scenery and views in the mountains and down to Puerto de Mazarrón are absolutely beautiful.

Go as far as along the road, right through Isla Plana village and then turn left from where it is 5 minutes to Puerto de Mazarrón.

The journey is about an hour and a bit in total. Good luck.
