Z-Match - Version 2 Internal Construction
Notes:
- The HF section is on the left hand side, the VHF section on the right. Small strips of polystyrene or perspex are positioned between each pair of VHF windings and held in place with polystyrene or acrylic adhesive.
- The three die cast boxes, from front to back respectively, hold the HF SWR bridge / power meter circuit board, the HF dummy load and the VHF SWR bridge.
- All 50ohm switches have metal ground plates on each side of the wafer to form a “microstrip like” environment. This technique seems to work well as long as the plates are close together and connected around their perimeter.
- Choice of coaxial connectors is left to each individual constructor - the author has used BNC for VHF and Belling & Lee (with a steel circlip on the socket) for HF with no problems.
- The aerial switching has been arranged so that a single aerial with open wire feeders may be used on HF and VHF. When set to VHF, the HF side is connected to the internal dummy load.
