Its tempting to think that you need a shack full of test gear to do anything useful. Here is my shack (doing a Chirp run). No fancy test gear in sight! A rundown from left to right: IC-737, MSF Clock (not used for timing Chirps), laptop, stack with ATU, HF amplifier and SWR bridge and finally the GPS clock used for the Chirp work. Sophisticated test gear consists of a calculator and a multimeter. The little square thing above the window is part of the Heath Robinson GPS antenna mount. The GPS antenna is magnetic and is stuck on one of my wife's baking trays which is held on the roof by the weight of a brick. This is: a) rather crude b) very dangerous (especially if my wife discovers where her baking tray is!) |
