The club was formed in 1985 by a friendly group of local radio amateurs who transformed an abandoned public works office into a fully equiped radio club and regional radio training centre.  The club has been recognised and approved by the Radio Society of Great Britain and the City and Guilds Institute as a Radio Amateurs Examination centre.

The building is located adjacent to the public library on the corner of Broadway and Bleakhouse Road in Oldbury, Sandwell, West Midlands.  The Broadway is just off the Birmingham to Wolverhampton New Rd (A4123).  Adequate parking is available on the club's tarmac forecourt and in Broadway.  The club is close to the following bus routes ; 126, 258, and 129.
