I had been a short wave listener with my father from an early age. He used to attend the Tunbridge Wells Amateur Radio Society in the 1960's. He took the RAE when you actually had to write essay type answers to questions. Had he passed he would have had a G8 callsign. Unfortunately he did not pass and did not want to take it again when I passed in 1983. However, he still listens when he can.
I joined the amateur bands in November 1983 with the attitude, if you can't beat them join them!.
My main amateur contacts are found on GB3KN which I monitor everyday.
I am an active member of of our local amateur radio club. THE BREDHURST RECEIVING & TRANSMITTING SOCIETY. www.the-brats.net.
With the new changes that are happening in Amateur Radio in
the UK my husband G4VSZ has lead a team of BRATS members and put together
courses covering the FLC and ILC with a view to doing a course covering
the new RAE later this year. These members have offered their various skills
in all aspects of the training from proof reading to lecturing in the true
spirit of Amateur Radio. The internet run web courses which are FREE
can be found on www.amradioinfo.co.uk
I manage to combine my love of crochet, gardening, entertaining,
and family commitments to 5 daughters and 4 grandchildren with amateur radio,
especially at field days. Hubby (G4VSZ) plays radio and I crochet and drink
tea.
