One of my passions is my Land Rover, it is a 1961 SWB SII, soft-top, and is a great vehicle for taking contesting. I bought it as a MOT failure, and set about rebuilding it. Easy I thought, but the more I took it apart the more problems I found (sounds familiar?). Well before I knew it, the carport was full of Land Rover bits!
Well, I stated with getting the chassis blasted, and then welding on a new outrigger support. Then how to treat the chassis, to stop the rust? Well I thought that I would paint it yellow! It would certainly be difficult to lose that way, especially if it was up side down. The engine and gearbox followed, and when coupled to the cleaned and repainted axles, it was looking better.

The old soldered fuel tank had a low level leak, and so was replaced with a washing up bowl type two piece tank. This was also painted yellow (yes things were looking rather bright!) The original bulkhead had rusted through in more places than I cared to treat. So a series IIA X-army bulkhead was purchased for a small sum, this was blasted, and this was painted, a more conventional green.
The body was replaced, and then the rewiring was done. Every where it was possible to add a proper earth return this was done. It makes all the lights a lot brighter, as well as reducing the corrosion potential.
Finally 10 months after the start the Landy was back on the road, MOT'd and doing its first long journey of some 200 miles. Since that time it has traveled all over the UK and been to several off road meetings.
