What not to do to your R1000

From the e-mails and Guest-book entries I have read since this web-site was "launched" there have been some useful tips about "what not to do" to your lovely R1000.

Some are listed below.

Do not under any circumstances use WD40 (as used in the Motor Trade) as an alternative to proper switch cleaner. Depending on where it has been squirted, the adverse effects include:

- loss of "positive click-stop" feel to the MODE switch and in some cases failure of the locking mechanism so the buttons will not stay pushed in. TIME SET switches not responding or "erratic behaviour". Digital Freq readout differing from Band switch selector Mhz setting by + or - 1Mhz (adjacent switch positions).

So - DON'T DO IT!

I recommend using Servisol SUPER 10 switch cleaner and lubricant.

Also - at Risk of Death, the use of Isopropol Alcohol is a sure way to melt any plastic switch body and contact mechanism, and also "cloud-up" the Display and S-Meter perspex or "plexy-glass"!

More Tips to come soon!
