FSTV
The group have recently become interested in this mode and are currently finalising the setting up of a transmitter constructed from a modified “blue cap” lnb that started life on a Sky dish. We are lucky to have a member whose expertise lies in microwave technology and he has constructed the transmitter from scratch.
The receiver is a modified 40ch Astra unit that has been re-tuned.
A very robust post on top of the UMIST building carries two ex-Astra dishes, one above the other. One for transmission and one for reception. The whole assembly can be remotely controlled for direction.
We also have a CCTV camera mounted on the roof taking in a panoramic view of Manchester City Centre. This camera, along with one showing the inside of the shack, can be fed into the transmitter manually or switched automatically.
Images from these are also being shown now on the club webcam.
Hopefully everything should be set up and working by the end of November and we should be “on air” most Thursday evenings and listening on 439.675 MHz.
