Hi, my name as you can see is Steve and I live in the town of ROTHERHAM, South Yorkshire. (often referred to as "God's County) as this is as near to Heaven as most of us will get ~ Cue Music.
I was born in 1952 and became interested in Amateur Radio whilst serving in the Royal Navy as a Radio Operator, my first Callsign was G1SGB. SGB which as you will note are my Initials, I then waited several years to attain GØSGB even though I had learnt Morse as a Matelot. I presently work self-employed as an Electrician.
Other than Amateur Radio my other interests are Lighthouses & Travel, so, with very good fortune I often managed to combine all three by having organised several expeditions to remote islands around the UK that contain lighthouses and with conditions permitting transmitted Amateur Radio World-wide. Using a modified ICOM 726 @ 100 - 200 watts with Vogad Audio Amp & basic home-brew multiband dipoles I have managed to talk around the globe to fellow Amateurs and Lighthouse enthusiasts.
My main areas of interest are the Scottish Islands and over the years these were the only areas in the UK that I regularly visited. Orkney, Shetland, Western Isles & the Inner Islands being my favourite destinations. My expedition page gives details of my lighthouse Dxpeditions to these and many more areas.
As a self confessed "Anorak" on Lighthouses I have collected a massive library of colour photographs from around the UK & Eire these are willing offered to anyone wishing them in JPEG format. In return perhaps you could send me your photographs without any Copyright to add to this collection and thus create a central library for all fellow lighthouse enthusiasts to use.
