===============================================================

Welcome, my name is Jon Wheeler and I've been a Radio Ham since I was 15. I am married to Helen and have two lovely children, Emma and Matthew. I am active from top band to 70cms with my favorites being 17m, 10m and 6 meters. My father, Ron Wheeler is also licensed as G1LJT and he's active on all bands including 10 meters. Ron listens out on 29.600 Mhz FM most of the time - so why not give him a call. Also, big thanks to Kevin Romang G4SKN for helping me get this website up and running - cheers Kev. Hi also to Simon Thompson M3SDT who generated the enthusiasm for me to get the site going.

MY SHACK
As you can see my shack is pretty small 10' x 7' approx so I've had to cram my rigs in to a tight space. My shack comprises of the following:
ON HF
FT920 connected to a 10 and 12 meter rotary dipole plus a 160m vertical.
FT847 to a 20m Pro=Am inverted V dipole.
ON 80 &40
An ICOM 746 in to a MyDel Multitrap and 17m Pro-Am rotary dipole.
& ON 28 Mhz (I'm a collector of fine 10 meter radios - see below)
A President Lincoln monitoring 28.500 Mhz to a G5RV
A Magnum 257 American 10 metre rig to a tri band vertical
A Radioshack HTX-10 10 meter multimode
ON 50/51 Mhz
Here I use an FT8900 on fm in to a Tri-Band white stick plus an FT100D on SSB to a Ringo AR6 Vertical.
ON 70 Mhz
I use an AKD 4001 and or an FT847 to a 3 ele beam.
VHF/UHF
An Icom IC910X 4 Element Tonna on 2m and the same rig plus a 9 element tonna on 70cm's
23cm
Here I use an IC910X with 10 watts in to 12.5m of H100 to a 19 element Sandpiper beam. Best DX so far is Saltash Cornwall.
PMR 446
On 446 I have a Motorola TA-200 (very good), several Goodman's Trackers which are really easy to use and offer very good value for money (squelch set a little high in my opinion). I also use a pair of Cobra Microtalk's (£49.99 the pair on special from Maplin's) and some Goodman's Trackers - all sets proving great value for money. Check out Littlewoods Index, they've got a whole host of 446 Mhz radios and even do interest free repayments.
Going Mobile
In the car I run an FT8900 quadbander and operate 29/50/144 and 430 Mhz bands.
The gallery (a little out of date now - I must update these pictures)
Here we are at Christmas 2001. Couldn't get near the rig that day...
Below is a picture of my antennas taken in June 2002 and to the right is my FT847 and Radioshack HTX-10, 10 meter monobander (a great little rig) bought in August 2002 courtesy of Nevada Communications in Portsmouth - give Mick Honeywell a ring (023 9231 3090) and you're assured of a great deal!!!
