FARA - The Early Years
and more...

President's Message
I'm writing this on Friday before the long Labor Day weekend and I am looking forward to the FARA Picnic.  By the time you read this, this year's FARA picnic will history.  It looks like we will have a good turnout.  We have a beautiful site on a pond with canoes and a lifeguard.  We also have a volleyball net and all the comforts of home.  Good conversation and good food also come with the package.  If you missed this year's picnic, consider coming next year, and bring the kids.  You will have a great time!
FARA has become the recipient of more antennas.  Leo, WA1HAM has given us a 13 element 2 meter beam, a 6 meter beam and a gin pole.  Our crack tower crew, led by Peter, KA1AXY, did some house cleaning on Leo's tower and the antennas were FARA's reward.  We thank Leo for the donations.
This month's meeting will feature a dxpedition tape of the Peter 1 Island dxpedition, 3Y0PI, in 1994.  Martin will supply the tape, I'll bring the projector and FARA will supply the popcorn.  We have some great future meetings planned.  Next month, we hope to have a presentation featuring the FARA Packet Cluster system.  In addition, Paul, K1XM, and Charlotte, KQ1F, have promised to do another one of their awesome dxpedition presentations this Fall.  No date yet, but watch the Circuit.
At the last FARA Board meeting, we agreed to post notes from Board meetings on the FARA web site.  This is a way to let our members know what goes on in those monthly meetings.
Sharon, KC1YR, has found a money making opportunity for FARA via our web site.  Amazon.Com offers a commission to organizations who link to amazon.com on their web site.  If you have entered the amazon.com site via the link on the FARA web site, and place an order, FARA will get a percentage back from the order.  Every little bit helps, so if you order from Amazon.Com, enter the site via www.fara.org.
Finally, as I mentioned last month, I'd like to recognize a member or two every month for their contributions to FARA.  This month, I'd like to feature our Packet Cluster Group.  Charlie, NC1N, is the system Guru.  If it were not for Charlie, we would not have a Packet Cluster Node.  Charlie has put countless hours into our Node.  Assisting Charlie with system administration is Lee, K1GL, Sharon, KC1YR, and Dennis, NB1B.  Also, helping out with remote resets and overall monitoring of the system is Jim, N1XAS.  Just another group of FARA members who help make this Club one of the best in the nation!
