Hi Everyone!

Hope everyone is having a good summer so far! It’s time for another round of fun CERT Refreshers!

Remember, all members are required to attend at least one refresher or act as a victim each year to maintain affiliation with Fairfax County CERT. If you’ve finished your training in calendar year 2005 then no refresher is required, but you are encouraged to attend.

The schedule for this year’s refreshers will be:

August 3 – General Refresher
Review all of the knowledge items in classroom and do a simple scenario afterwards.

August 4 – Rope Mechanical Advantage Systems and First Aid
Learn some more rope systems and mechanical advantage systems along with first aid refresher.

August 10 – Cribbing, Extrication, and Patient Carries
Perform some difficult cribbing, extrication drills along with patient carries.

August 11 – Chain Saw Usage
Learn to use a chain saw. Bring yours from home if you have one to learn and practice on your own (make sure yours has fuel as we may not have the proper mix for your brand.) We’ll also have some saws at the Academy.

August 17 – Scenarios
Two full scenarios. – Victims needed! - NON CERT MEMBERS CAN BE A VICTIM

August 18 – Scenarios
Two full scenarios. – Victims needed! - NON CERT MEMBERS CAN BE A VICTIM

All classes start at 7:00pm and go till about 10:00p and will be at the Academy. The scenario refreshers (August 17 and 18) will last until 10:30p. Don’t forget your gear and put fresh batteries in your lights and radios!

We need victims for the August 17th and 18th refreshers. Please help find some victims. Also if you were part of this year’s CERT classes, you could really help us out by being a victim! If you know anyone who hasn't taken the CERT training, but is thinking about it, being a victim is a good chance to observe the program "up close and personal."

Please contact your CERT team coordinators so they can gather a list of possible attendees for each class and have them forward that to me. Please provide me with a current contact phone number as well. See you next month!

Derek
