F6FLV's amateur radio activity

I was born in 1955 in Paris city (France).

When I was 10 years old, my father gave me an old galena receiver. I was fascinated by the antenna : I try to connect my receiver to everything : long wire, electric lead, pipes, earth wire, refrigerators, ....
From that point, I would like to be an electronics engineer.

At 14 years old, I listen my first Amateur Radio (AM mode, 80 m) on my new SW broadcast receiver (VEF706).
I didnt know what was an "Amateur Radio" so, I contact my electronic component dealer to know how to be an Amateur Radio.
The dealer give me the address of a SWL. But this man was also a CB Radio operator. A week later, I was QRV on 27 MHz with a 5W AM TRX : and I forgot to study the Amateur Radio License Program.

I remember that my father dont like this because I put an antenna on the top of the home building (with some TVI).

In 1974, I did my first expedition and my first CB contest at the top of the "Dent d'Oche", about 2222 m asl (near Evian city, 3 hours by foot x 3 times to upload the equipment).
I was also full QRV on my motorbike and I did many CB portable.

During my military service (1976), I join a military amateur radio-club in Strasbourg, and very often, I got my "F6" radio amateur license. Then I left completely the CB radio.

My first transceiver was an IC202 : I did many portables with a 9 el on mountains.
Then, until now, I was a weak signals radio VHF fan.

When I came back to Paris city, I setup a single 9 el (1W) and I did many DX.
So the small system was replaced by a 4x9x2 el (V+H) with elevation to work moon bounce.
But the QRM was so heavy in Paris city : I cant really use it except in tropo, MS an Aurora.
During few years, I had a very good time with this antenna (50W solid state amplifier).
I had also a very good experience with F6KAW radio-club : VHF contests, homebrew, ...
Especially, I remember that my best excitement was to climb on the 60 m radio-club tower to put and repair antennas.

Sometime I ask myself "am I mad ? " : because from 1974 to now, radio take a very strong place in my life.

A few years after I get married with "Marie-Thérèse". On day, she asks me "Do you know what is the paper in my hand ? " :
It was incredible, she had prepared the amateur radio license secretely and the paper was his "F1TFF amateur radio license".

I did few DXexpedition :

  • Principauté d'Andorre (AC28E square). Date=1980-5 july/14 july,
    • Calls = C31UG/C31UD,
    • Operators = F6GIF, F1EDJ, F6FLV
    • QRV 144 (80W)-TS700 16 el.
    • Tropo : very bad tropo and weather (2400 m asl, camping on the snow)
    • MS : somes skeds SBB
    • Esporadique and mny FAI :
      • 7 july (YU, LZ, UG6)
      • 10 july (SV, LZ, YU,I0/2/4/5/6)
      • 12 july (OK, OE3/6,YU, HG)
      • 13 july (YU, HG,OE8,OK,LZ)

  • South Irland (VL42A square). Date=1981-26 june/16 july
    • Calls = EI3VDE and EI3VDX.,
    • Operators = F6GIF, TK5EP, F6FLV, F1FIS(+)
    • QRV 144 (300W 16 el)-TS700 and 432 (80W 2x21el)-IC402
    • Tropo :
      • 6 july (PA, ON, DL,F)
      • 7 july (PA, ON, DL,F)
      • 12/13/14 july (EA1,South/Center/Est F)
    • MS : mny skeds SBB/CW

      • 15 july (YU)

  • Menorca Island -Baleares (CZ square and some BA/CA). Date = 1982
    • Call = EA6/F6KAW (radio-club),
    • Operators = F6GIF, F5DTK, F6GWV, F6IFR, F6CWN, F6FLV,...
    • QRV 144 (1kW 4x16el)-TS700, 432 (100W 4x21el)-IC402
    • It was really a fantastic DX expedition (unfortunately without Esporadique)
    • We had mny very good FAI (HA,LZ,YU,OE) and many very good tropo opening (PA, G, DL, all F, EA9, YU) + one strong Aurora (EI6AS, PA),...
    • We were QRV 24/24h 7/7j during the expedition, with a lot of MS CW skeds (every night) and sometimes, when no activity, we put a beacon on 144.210 MHz.

  • OD5/F6FLV (KM73 sq, 1993, 144 MHz-25W-8el : one very good Es with I/YU : august)

  • OD5/F6FLV (KM73/74/84 sqs, 1996, 144 MHz FM : no DX QSO = radio site survey)

  • FM/F6FLV January 1997, HF = 600 QSO in CW

  • OD5RAK/F6FLV (KM74 sqs, 1998, 144 MHz and 50 MHz SSB/CW : DX expedition)

  • 3B8/F6FLV January 1999, HF = 20 QSO in CW (to much sun and fish activities)

  • I am planning to be active next from KM84
    DX expedition 6m/2m SSB/CW Es/MS : OD5RAK

Now, my QTH is Bois d'Arcy (20 km Ouest from Paris city), in JN18AT (180 m asl).

My postal address is :Jean-Pierre Malezet
9, rue E.J. MAREY
78390 Bois d'Arcy

You can send me a mail by Packet Radio to :F6FLV@F6PTT.FRPA.FRA.EU

I am QRV in :

  • 40/80 m : FTONE, 2BDQ dipole
  • 20/15/10 m : FTONE, 50W , Hygain Explorer 14 (3/6 el)
  • 50 MHz : IC706, 5el H at 10 m agl
  • 144 MHz : IC736 + MRF245s = 350W out , 2x 17 el H at 12 m agl, 180 masl
  • 432 MHz : IC736, 25 W, 21 el H at 10 m agl
  • 1,2 GHz : IC736, 10 W, 23 el H or 4x55el H

My excitements are weak signals and special propagation modes (Es, FAI, Aurora, F2, tropo) especially 2 and 6m.

In 1994, I discovered the MAGIC BAND (6m) : Now this band is my best pleasure.

During a year, my major programmed activity is :

  • Quadrantids meteor shower (begining of january),
  • Esporadique 6m season (may to september),
  • Esporadique 2m season (15 may to 12 august),
  • Perseids meteor shower (11-12 august).
