132nd Dublin (Bayside) Scouts Radio Group
The 132nd
Dublin (Bayside) Scout Group was founded in 1976 and is now one of the largest
in Ireland with 2 Beaver Colonies (Ages 6-8), 2 Cub Packs (ages 8-11), 2 Scout
Troops (ages 11-16), 2 Venturer Units (ages 16-18) with approximately 180
members and 40 adult Leaders.
Membership of the Radio Group is made up of Scouts, Venturers and
Leaders from the 132nd Scout Group and some neighbouring Groups.
The 132nd
Dublin (Bayside) Scout Group first participated in Jamboree on the Air (JOTA)
in 1984. The Group was allotted the
special event call sign EI4BST (Echo India 4 Bayside Scout Troop) for each JOTA
weekend until 1989 when it was allotted EI4BSJ
(Echo India 4 Bayside Scout Jamboree).
In September
1995 the Scout Group applied for and was granted a club licence and it’s
original special event call sign EI4BST.
Besides
participating in JOTA the 132nd
Bayside Scout Radio Group is affiliated to the Irish Radio Transmitters
Society and participates in the Society’s contests and field days.
Members of the
132nd Bayside Scout Radio Group have also assisted the AREN - Amateur Radio Emergency Network
in providing communications on the Lug Walk and the Ring of Imaal Walk .
The 132nd
Bayside Scout Radio Group provides radio theory and Morse classes for any
member of Scouting Ireland CSI
and Scouting Ireland SAI who wishes to
obtain a radio experimenter’s licence.
