Verified Reception Stamps

In a very different context EKKO and Bryant Verified Reception Stamps originated in the USA in the early 1920's. They were used by Broadcasting Stations in nearly every state, as well as Canada, Cuba, and Mexico. Although regarded as little better than labels or "cinderellas" by most stamp collectors, the collection of radio stamps was a very popular hobby of the listening public in the 1920's and 1930's.

An account of the origin of Verified Reception Stamps together with some illustrations has been published by "Antique Radio Classified". To see the EKKO stamps story, go to the June 1997 edition. A later reference can be found in the July 1998 edition. To see the Bryant stamps story, go to the Nov 2001 edition. Other references to EKKO stamps can be found in The Broadcast Archive, in The mission of Old Radio and Linn's Stamp News 20 July 1998, Examples of EKKO stamps also feature in an comprehensive article - Radio Stamps - written by Bart Lee, xWPE2DLT.

At this stage most broadcasting stations have abandoned the use of Verified Reception Stamps. I am aware however that they are used by Adventist World Radio. The November 2000 edition of AWR's QSL card showed three designs; to see an image and write-up of the card, go to http://www181.pair.com/otsw/AWR-Stamps.html.
