From: ON1BJC@ON1BWP.#BTN.BEL.EU To : TNC2@WW Hi TNC2-runner, Serveral weeks ago I did some tests with the TNC2 running at 10Mhz (SIO & CPU are 10Mhz versions): at 9600Bps with the G3RUH at both ends ,running SP the throughput was 40kBytes/min.Then we speed up the modems to 19200Bps ,also changed the RX filters in the interlink III transceivers and started again ou test : throughput only 50 Kbytes/min.We noticed during the tests that the tnc2's were the bottleneck in the system...they were not able to follow... So i decided to speed up the clock of the cpu and the sio... At the TNC2C you see the baudrategenerator...74HC4060.. Cut the line coming up to pin 9, take a clockosc. 16Mhz ,connect the GND and the+5v and solder the output to the line that was before at pin 9 of the 4060. This way the new osc. will provide a higher clock to the CPU and SIO... Finally ,i did the tests again : result at 19200Bps ,throughput 63Kbps. So you will have at least 25% more throughput with this simple trick ! (160Bfr) Conclusion: This might be a good solution fr those nodes which are having a low budget...(haven't we all????) ....
