สำหรับแสตมป์ต่างประเทศมีจัดพิมพ์ออกมาอยู่หลายชุด ชุดที่คิดว่าเป็นชุดแรกที่เกี่ยวกับวิทยุสมัครเล่นและน่าสนใจมากที่สุด น่าจะเป็นชุดที่จัดพิมพ์ขึ้นเนื่องในโอกาสที่นักวิทยุสมัครเล่น 250,000 คน ได้มีส่วนช่วยเหลือในเหตุการณ์แผ่นดินไหวที่ Alaska เมื่อ 27 March 1964 และครบรอบ 50 ปี ของ ARRL ( 1914-1964 ) ในชุดนี้มีซองที่ระลึกสวยๆ มากมายหลายแบบ

A 50 yen postage stamp featuring a horn-shaped speaker and a telegraph key has been issued by the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of amateur radio.

Amateur radio made its apperance in the United States in or about 1902. Studies on amateur radio were started in Japan in or about 1925, and a government license was given to a private wireless telegraph and telephone station for the first time in September 1927. In the early years, the number of such stations was small, most of them being operated in or around major cities, and they gradually increased throughout the nation. Although considerable restrictions were placed on frequency, electric output and operation, these stations had come up to the world standards.

With the outbreak of World War II, a total ban was put on the transmitting and receiving of nongovernment radio waves. In July 1952 after the conclusion of the Peace Treaty, preliminary licenses were given to 30 amateur radio stations, and their number has since increased at a rapid pace. At the end of 1974, Japan ranked first in the world in the number of amateur radio stations, going ahead of the United States. At present, there are about 340,000 amateur radio stations.
