Openness to Challenge
What does a life of being a ham truly mean? For me, it means a life of continuous and never-ending development of skill, equipment and relationship. We know the hobby of being amateur radio enthusiasts only through our relationship to such world. Therefore, to know the world of hams, we must not only examine it but we must simultaneously examine ourselves on how to be abreast with present technologies. For this reason, I was encouraged to put to proof my skill, equipment and relationship through the image mode of SSTV (Slowscan Television).
More than a year ago, my friend and co-member Carlo, 4F1JZZ, was set to fill with courage and strength our hope to realize an unfulfilled conviction that we at DU land are worth it afterall. From the time we joined the 20th JASTA SSTV Contest in August 1997, the total dedication to the challenge and truth that it was a bit late for Pinoy hams to such curiosity was finally initiated. Because of the criticisms inherent in the process of introducing the SSTV to fellow amateurs in this country, it exposed me more to the challenge of genuine passion to share the idea.
Stagnation should never be in our vocabulary as hams. Taking an extra step or walking an extra mile is in opposition to the inertia of laziness or the resistance of fear. Nothing is painful with the challenges and excitement of SSTV and it has no apparent negative consequences. It is simply about enhancement of our means of communication with fellow hams.
