Public Service events

Durham ARES members keep our communications skills sharp and our equipment ready, and our organization visible to the community, by volunteering to provide communications for local public service events such as walkathons, bikeathons, etc.. Durham ARES encourages its members to participate in these public service events whenever possible.

At public service events ham operators shadow the event organization staff, man checkpoints and rest/water stops, ride in "sag wagons" and supply vehicles, assist with parking and transportation coordination, and serve as liaisons between event organizers and emergency services personnel.

Upcoming public service events are announced on our e-mail list, on our practice nets, and at ARES and Durham FM Association meetings. Triangle area public service opportunities are also listed at the Central Carolina Helping Hams website.
