Something about our stay on Zanzibar
Island 2002
- The night market of Stonetown was again a destination
of our trips around the island.
- One day we visited a small village, called Bambi, in the centre of the island.
A mixed group from tanzanian and german people celebrated a performance for children about problems of the world. It was a project from a development aid group.
- On October 10th I celebrated my 40th birthday. We started with a fast breakfast
early in the morning, because we had to sail with a dhow during
high tide. We reached Chwaka Bay, a peninsula opposite Uroa, after one hour. There we had
an interesting walk through the mangroves. After our return to Uroa
it was coffee time with Marinas selfbaked cake. In the evening we celebrated a party on the
beach, organized by Juma.
preparation in Jumas restaurant - buffet -
after a delicious meal - beach party with dancers from Uroa - an unforgetable birthday.....
- On October 14th we started to our adventure tour to Ifakara. Ifakara is situated 350 km
southwest of capital Daressalam. We wanted visit Rainers godchild Benno in Ifakara. The help organisation "PLAN International" build schools, sink wells, arrange sponsorchips for children, etc. After a strenuous trip (Start 5:30 local time - Taxi Uroa-Stonetown - 7:00 to 9:00 ferry
Stonetown-Daressalam - 9:00 to 18:30 Jeeptour Daressalam-Ifakara) we reached very exhausted
Ifakara. Many thanks to our excellent driver William. The evening
ended with a visit in the "New Mam Bar". The next day was Rainers
day. He met his godchild Benno first time. During our return trip
we did a stop for relaxation in Mikumi National Park. We spent the
night in a beautiful Banda in Kikoboga (Mikumi Wildlife Camp) in
the midst of wilderness. While a safari in the national park we saw many animals (giraffes,
lions, hippos, elephants, etc).
- Back on Zanzibar we had fun with soccer (Rainer is a former
professional player), delicious fish barbecue and a hammock.
On October 21st we went back with some difficulties to Germany.
