Antenna page 2

Here you can see the base of the tower. The box on the left houses all the relays for antenna switching and the dummy load that is connected to the 4-square hybrid coupler which is installed some meter away. The case on the right protects the 80 and 160m capacitors against weather. All coax and control cables are layed underground to the shack which is some 40m away from the tower.

Picture above shows the box for the 80/160m gammamatch.

On the left you can see the 80 and 160m gammamatch. The capacities consists of commercial JENNINGS Vacuum C`s, 0-1000 pF at 15 kV. I use 3 fixed tuned C`s switchable with high voltage ceramic relays for 160m, 80m SSB and 80m CW. This antenna was completely rebuilt after the stroke of lightning in July 99.

On the right you can see the box with all the radials for 80 and 160m. So far i have ca. 100 wires on the ground and at least 200 sqm of chickenwire around the tower, laying under ground. Everything is connected to the mast.

The upper picture shows the 40m 4-square hybrid coupler. This antenna is an array of 4 verticals, switchable into 4 directions showing a very good F/B and around 5 db of gain. It´s much better for DX than the rotary dipol on the tower. Each vertical has about 25 quarterwave radials. Exept the coupler the antenna is completely homebrew with fishingrods and fiberglass pipes.Very cheap and efficient.

One of the 40m verticals.

On the right you have a view from the terrace into the garden. Behind the bushes on the right you can see partwise the lower section of the tower. The mast is around 40m away from the house. Thats quite a good distance cause i dont have any RF trouble into my PCs and other stuff. Another 30m behind the tower I have a 80m delta loop at 8m height on the neighbours farmground which is mainly used for EU-QSOs on 3.5 Mc.

Behind the little garden house I have installed the feedpoint for the beverage antennas. I use a 250m 2 wire beverage for east/west all over the year and due to the winter I can bring up some more on the neighbours farmground. Also I built one of these little magnetic loops for RX on 160m. Not as good as a beverage but better than any TX antenna. I tried the EWE antennas last season, but without any success. Even the TX antennas were better in receiving....
