During the night of Oct. 30th to 31st an enormous aurora borealis occured all over the world. This page shows a tiny portion of what could be seen in Rijswijk, near The Hague, in Zuid Holland (The Netherlands).
The photographs have been taken with an Olympus C-2020Z at f/2.0 with 16s exposures. Slight enhancement applied using "Digital Camera Enhace 1.3", jpeg-quality set to 72%. The size of the images was reduced to 640x480 using IrfanView, jpeg-quality set to 80% here. For the big red show I was a little late with my first shot, as my tripod was not prepared and I had to reach for some charged accumulators for the camera.
An interesting fight between the aurora and the clouds (enlighted by closeby highway illumination and the greenhouses of our area) can be observed, in particular the last of the presented photographs. Some of the images reveal some stars and deep sky objects, i.e. M45 (seven sisters).
