Hi friends, Here is the PA0JMV (jo21pm) report of Perseids 2003. For me it was a very good shower with nice results at very long distances. It was my #35 Perseids shower, and one of the better ones ! The days before and after the predicted maximum gave much better reflections at the long distances over 2000km. During the "maximum" i heard many stations at medium distances between 1200-1600 km but i did not call most of these, since i was hunting for new grids, and after so many MS showers, new grids can be found only >1600 km :-)) My station for MS is 1x12 ele yagi (2.5WL) at 12 m agnd, 3SK124 preamp, and PA with 400W , mostly running in FSK441 since there is not much left in HSCW nor SSB. Pictures of my station can be seen on my homepage www.planet.nl/~pa0jmv My locator is JO2PM and i will answer all received QSL's. Listed are ONLY complete QSO's; I had 2 skeds, one OK, one NIL (RK3PWJ/3). Note that 4 QSO were > 2100 km !! and the best score was 2218 km (not my ODX). 6 new grids for a total of #782 grids. times given are end of QSO in UTC. 8 aug 08.23 random QSO OH9O in kp48da# at 2218 km ,nice start :-)) 9 aug 12.10 RW3AZ/1 ko57au# 1733 km 15.31 OH3XR kp11th 1561 km 10 aug 10.22 OH6ZZ kp12bo 1592 km 14.46 OH1FA kp10pl 1493 km 17.58 OH9SCL kp46bi# 2048 km 11 aug 06.57 OH9O kp37kc# 2103 km 08.55 OH6KTL kp02oj 1542 km 09.49 HA75MS jn87vc 997 km 10.14 OM3KDX kn18dx 1242 km 18.01 OH6PA kp02pl 1551 km 18.34 LA8G jp44xa 1419 km 12 aug 07.18 OH6GDX kp02qu 1584 km 09.21 EA3BB/2 in91qo 1187 km 13.17 OH6HFX kp14ra 1749 km 13 aug 00.22 UT1E kn57xx# 1950 km 15.02 UA3ARC ko85so 2163 km 20.41 RA3AQ ko85sp 2164 km 14 aug 02.21 SV3KH km07pq# 1985 km (only HSCW qso) 02.46 LZ1KWT kn22tk 1838 km 03.31 YU7AZX kn04ax 1311 km 03.42 LZ2FO kn13kx 1556 km 03.53 YU1CF kn03qn 1494 km 08.58 RK2FWA ko04ft 1076 km 11.09 RX1AS ko59fx 1823 km 11.46 RX1AX ko59ew 1817 km CU all again in the next good shower, Leonids, or at any other day via sporadic meteors or EME 73, Joop PA0JMV

It was nice to work also some QRP stations easily such as LZ1BB/P or HA7MB who were using just some 50 watts out to small antennas. The worst was the heat in my shack in the loft, always 35C which meant that I had to reduce power output substantially to save my amplifier. I may look for a portable air condition for next years perseids... Many thanks for the huge effort the dxpeditions OH9O (OH8K), OM3KDX, RW3AZ/1,LZ1BB, EA3BB/2, RK3PWJ/3, OH9SCL, LA0BY (whom I worked on tropo this time) and others put in making rare squares available. The whole MS community appreciates your hard work! 73 Bernd, DF2ZC (JO30RN) www.df2zc.de

These are my QSOs for the Perseid period 2003, of the the 29 worked 24 were random, either on my CQ or the other stations, 17 gave new squares and one, YU1CF, a new DXCC. Thanks all for the impressive activity and generally good behavior - even on .370! Need I say that all QSOs this year were WSJT/FSK441? The night of the max itself was pretty poor, I fell asleep around three in the morning due to lack of reflections, and didn't wake up until seven in the morning, missing the, reportedly poor, maximum completely. Final report for 12/13/14 08. Perseids 2003 It was surprising reflections. We (Sinisa YT1NT and My self Goran YU1CF) worked from my new location with new antenna system. I am not sure is the reflections this year are so good or because of new antenna system, but in any 30 seconds relations (WSJT) we read couple of hundred letters at once. Exciting adventure. PERSEIDS 2003
What shall I say - it was a very high activity in FSK441
and I saw a lot of long bursts (most complete tx periode)
but I did miss the great fun on the SSB random qrg, while
everybody was playing digital - never the less there was
some and they realy had tremendous signals! I copied LA8G
always on SSB with more than 10-15 1min bursts around
13-08 00-02UT - after I gone to run the tropo towards EA
A second maximum I did not have seen...
Next good shower, please be patient and come back to SSB
also and enjoy the long burst there again....

It is difficult for me to assess whether this Perseides had been worse, equal or even better than the years before as I took part the first time after a 20 year interrupt and as you could imagine it is not objective and also useless to try to compare this Perseides with that one 20 years ago. But one is for sure: There is much more activity than in the mid 80. One reason is with out any doubt WSJT which has pushed the activity dramaticly. In the beginning of the 80's it took a lot of effort to built a MS station with audio mixer, tuned cassett recorders, electronic keyers and last but not least stable power amplifiers which the ability to survive 5min.(!) periodes. Compared to the Leonides last year, I was a little bit disappointed by the SSB random activity. How did the Persides have been for me? Quite easy to say: In my eyes very successful! I worked from the 5.-14. August on MS: 23 new squares and 2 new DXCC's including my new MS-ODX with SM2CEW over 2063Km. Several other new squares are worked on tropo, but not listed below. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- DATUM ZEITRUFZEICHEN LOCATOR TX RX ART QRB ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- 07/08/2003 06:57 IC8CQF JN7ØCN 26 26 WSJT 852 07/08/2003 09:25 SO5AS KOØ2JD 26 26 WSJT 793 09/08/2003 09:46 OH6KTL KPØ2OJ 26 26 WSJT 1704 09/08/2003 19:05 EA3AXV JNØ1TJ 26 27 WSJT 1083 09/08/2003 19:32 EA6DD JM19JK 26 27 WSJT 1191 09/08/2003 22:30 OH6ZZ KP12BO 26 26 WSJT 1745 10/08/2003 20:30 GØDJA IO93IF 26 26 WSJT 1082 10/08/2003 22:43 LZ1KJ KN31CS 26 27 WSJT 1333 11/08/2003 11:45 RW3AZ/1 KO57AV 26 27 WSJT 1637 11/08/2003 22:04 LA8G JP44 27 27 WSJT 1841+- 11/08/2003 23:20 SM3PXO JP73HE 27 26 WSJT 1695 12/08/2003 00:24 LZ2FO KN13KX 27 26 WSJT 971 12/08/2003 00:36 ISØCAK JM49MB 26 26 WSJT 1019 12/08/2003 08:36 EA2BB/P IN91OQ 27 27 WSJT 1208 12/08/2003 09:39 RU1AA KP4ØXD 27 27 WSJT 1786 12/08/2003 20:16 OH6HFX KP14RA 26 26 WSJT 1915 12/08/2003 20:18 LZ1BB/P KN43AO 26 27 WSJT 1354 12/08/2003 23:20 LA1K JP53EK 26 36 WSJT 1716 13/08/2003 00:30 UT1E KN68RA 26 27 WSJT 1612 13/08/2003 01:56 YU1CF KNØ3QN 26 27 WSJT 897 13/08/2003 03:48 LAØBY/P JO39PB 27 36 SSB 1261 13/08/2003 06:00 SM2CEW KP15CR 6 37 WSJT 2063 13/08/2003 09:57 SM5TSP JP9ØCE 26 26 WSJT 1416 14/08/2003 05:46 EA6VQ JM19HO 47 27 WSJT 1184 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Anzahl aufgelisteter QSOs 24 The quickest QSO was with LA8K in 7 minutes and it could have been even quicker some days before when I heard very loud and often in every period, but I could not disturb an ongoing sked. Thanks a lot also to Stefan, LA0BY/p, for the patience with me, as I could hear him not to loud. I don't know way. Beside the complete QSO's I heard a lot of station on random including two very interesting ones but couldn't reach them. 1. RN6BN 2099Km 2. RA3QTT 2092Km Further staion just heard on random, partly very often and loud: UA3DHU, HA3UU (new#), ES1RF, RK2FWA (new#+newDXCC), SM3IEK (new#), OH1JCS, RA3AQ, LZ1AG (new#), HA5KDQ, SK4BX (new#), YU71ZP, OM3KDX, UT8AL (new#), + a lot of DL/PA/OE/I/G stations The only frustration had been the OH9O expedition for me, as I was not able to hear any ping from them. Ok, I had to admit, that the distances are quite far 2294Km for the KP37square and even 2410Km for the KP43 square. May be to far for my QTH. Since my return to 144MHz end of September 2002 I've worked 154# and 34DXCC's and some low hanging fruits have still to be earned (LX/YO/TK/9H/RK2/GI/T9) :-)) Hope to hear some of you in the next reflections.. My rig is: 4*2,4wl / 500W The Perseides report will be on my homepage/MS in a few days. vy73 Hans Boessl DL9MCC, JN58UA dl9mcc@darc.de http://www.qsl.net/dl9mcc
Thu, 14 Aug 2003 Little or no activity on 144.200 combined with a poor Perseids meteor shower confirmed by listening to 48+49 mhz video (mostly as normal, little or no enhancement) and watching comments/reports being exchanged on chat, "I got a 5 sec burst from you" or "need final rogers" "nothing from you in last 10 minutes" Damn it, its is a meteor shower we are working, U might not get a burst for 20 minutes, seems like a lot of people want "instant qso's" Next time I will make a list of skeds beforehand and with luck possibly get one or 2 interesting skeds via chat, My apologies to CT1FOH as he was on SSB and I on FSK441 during our sked. Anybody want a sked 06-07 next few mornings ??? especially dir LA/OZ/SM/ES Charles EI5FK

HB9FAP, jn46ew, 1830 masl, Rig: 2 x 500w, 2 x 18 M2, 4 x 4 el Yagi, DTR, Gaasfet Comments: This year I wanted to test especially for Random activity 2 simultaneous antennas systems. after having worked hard almost 3 days to setup all the equipment I was ready for the perseids. The system worked well. I enjoyed very much the perseids 2003 and I think they were not under average, as many HAM's have said. I have the impression that many people consider a shower being good or not just in function of their quantity of worked new squares/DXCC. Everybody saw a lack of Random activity in SSB and HSCW because of the new digital modes. My "usual" tests with very long distance MS (I mean over +/- 2300 KM) were without success this year due probably to a bad time for the skeds and/or problem by the sked partners of me. However it was a lot of fun for me, as always btw, and all the /night/morning of the 13th was very good. In my opinion there were 2 maxima, the first around 02-03 UTC and the second about 05-06 UTC. Pity only that SSB Random just had activity for a few hours. I think had could be more. Just a short trip to a possible new location in JP44. Tnx to ODD who let
us use is cottage.
We also wrk about 80 MS qso-s on 6 meter. Low activity on 6
- but shure info on DX-cluster via GSM phone made i difference.
Also wrk about 1000 QSO on HF (IOTA EU-066).
SRI fer those on the "other side" off Europe. We was not 100 % sure about
takeoff - and when we could be QRV - So no skeds made.
Hopefully - next time we will take som sked with south part off europe.
TNX to all who came on 144.227 / 144.366 and made us happy.
All QSLs to LA8G.

FT7400, S.S. PA 300W, 3WL M2 Many thanks to Tadas LY2BAW and Tom ES5RY for theyr nice hospitality.
I only had 24 hours available this time. As usually during main showers I was QRV from JN75DS, 1268m asl. After 6 tries in last three years finally complete QSO with Clive, GM4VVX. We were lucky with 30s burst on SSB as HSCW sked few hours prior was NC because of QRM from PA-SV stations using the same frequency. Who said that HSCW is dead, hi! NIL in sked with RK3PWJ but found them later on random. Nice reflections from LA8G on SSB(2050km) but couldn't get roger through pile up. FSK frequency they used was to close to .370. Nice reflections also from other expeditions: sk5cr/3, lz1bb/p and ea3bb/2 and, of course, from la0by/p. On long distance skeds (sm2ilf, sm2cew and oh8nxe; all over 2100km) few pings were heard but all QSOs NC. Due to non-stop CQ-ing on .370 in 1st period by ha5kdq any QSO towards East was impossible for more than 15 hours. This was really disappointing. It is evident that only one calling frequency for FSK is not enough (at least not in central EU).
