(ex DH 2 KLF , ex DG 2 KLF)

Locator: JO 30 LW +++ DOK : G 39 (Köln-West) +++ CQ - Zone: 14 +++ ITU Zone: 28

Hello, my name is Frank and I live in Cologne, Germany. I'm a Radio Amateur since 1996. I was 16 years old when i made my first license and got the callsign DG 2 KLF. This was an VHF/UHF - License.  After one year i upgraded to the german novice class HF-License. You just needed to handle the speed of 30 BPM (6 WPM) for it.. Now I was DH 2 KLF, and allowed to work on 80m,15m and 10m Bands with 150W, but not very long. I think it was just some months later and I got  to the full HF-Licence, by improving my Morse skills up to 60 BPM or (12 WPM). Now I am DJ 2 FL and there is no more upgrading possible...

My Favourites:

At the beginning I did 99% of my QSO's in CW because I like CW very much. Beeing able to communicate with people all over the world,  just with this short and long beeps, is something fascinating. Some people say it's primitive and old fashioned but for me that is what makes it so interessting: It's simple! Then I went to another school and my time for Amateur Radio decreased. So nowadays I'm on HF in SSB and CW, and prefer the 20m,15m and 10m Bands. But my special interest ist ATV. I  have a homemade transmitter for 23cm (1.2 GHz) and use some old satellite-receivers as receivers. Unfourtunately I'm only able to receive one ATV-Relay in Cologne. About 3 or 4 times in the year I am  a speaker for the local newsletter which is transmitted on 80m, 2m and ATV.

My Equipment:

HF:

Transceivers:
Kenwood TS-440SAT (which is my father's one)
Yaesu FT-757GX
Icom IC-740

Receiver:

Yaesu FRG-100 (my first HF Equipment)

Antennas:
Diamond CP5 Vertical for the classical Bands 80m,40m, 20m, 15m and 10m.
G5RV half sized multiband Dipole for 40m, 30m, 20m,17m,15m,12m and 10m. It's about 15.5m long.

For 40m, 30m and 20m I prefer  the G5RV, because it performs much better. For 15m and 10m the CP5 seems to be better, I even use ist on 12m and 17m, although it's not made for these Bands.

VHF/UHF:

I use two Icom's for VHF/UHF, the IC-275H is for 2m all mode with about 1W...100W output and the IC-475H looks the same and is for 70cm all mode with about 1... 75W output. These ones are really good workhorses.

Antennas:

I just have vertical Triband-Antenna for 2m, 70cm and 23cm from Diamond. I think it's the X-7000. Which performs very well, but VHF DXing is not my special interrest.

For 23cm I use two Double-Quads, one to receive, one to transmit. They are directed to the local ATV Relay.

Cologne by night

I took this picture during driving home in the evening around 22:30 o'clock. I made it with Bulb about 2 or 3 seconds exposure time on Slide-Film. This is a scan from a print, excuse for bad quality.
