Dickson County Amateur Radio Club Minutes

February 11, 2008

The Dickson County Amateur Radio Club meat in room 216 of the Renaissance Center at 7:00 PM.

The following were present at the meeting:

Charles Seay KN4HL – President
Jeff Clark NY4N – Vice President
Jerry Lewis KG4HDZ – Secretary / Treasurer
Becky Clark AF4QB
Vollie Miller NA4C
Bruce Newberry AG4VF
Visitor – Frank ????? (Anyone that can help with a last name, as he got away before I could find out, please let Ed Tilley know so that he can change the minutes.)

For our financial status:

As of last month we had a balance of $364.61. The cap (Vollie’) was past for donations and the club took up $21.00. This brings the balance for February to $385.61.

Most of the meeting was geared toward PRE-Field Day preparations, i.e. what class we would want to run in, power, antennas, and bands to work, etc. This was only to give us an idea as to what we might want to plan for next month.

Ed asked me to find out what information he should put on the web site off of the applications. I did, and it was decided that only the Name and Call Sign was to appear. Anyone needing to get in touch with a member could look them on QRZ.COM.

Some of us have been noticing in the last few months that the simplex frequency 146.580 MHz that we monitor and use some in events has had an interference issue. Somebody is cross-banding 146.580 MHz to the Tennessee Phone Net on HF 3.980 MHz. We have come to a conclusion, so far, that the person must be somewhere S to W to N of Dickson. The signal strength in White Bluff is a busy light to S1 and in the Dickson area it has been measured at S4 or better. Anyone that can help with this matter, please contact myself or Charles and we can fill you in.

Charles asked about the laptops for Networking for Field Day. I reported that I have 4 or 5 ready to go and have another that needs a Network card. The Network card has been supplied, thanks to Vollie.

Jeff wanted to know if the software was capable of saving to the local computer as well as the server. I told him I wasn’t sure but would find out. Ed and I are to go to the Soccer Field and check out the Network connection as soon as it warms up a little. Anyone that wants to meet us there to help with this are welcome. Pleas contact Ed or myself.
