The January meeting of the Dickson
County Amateur Radio Club was held on January 9, 2006, in room 216
of the Renaissance Center in Dickson. The following members were
present and accounted for:
Landon KF4CAU (along with Drew)
Jerry KF4HDZ
Charles KN4HL
Henry W9YFR
Bruce AF4VG
Jeff NY4N
Becky AF4QB
Skip W4VTH
Vollie W4TDB
A get well card for the surviving miner from Upshur County, West
Virginia coal mine disaster was passed around and signed by all in
attendance. The survivor ( whose name escapes me) is also an amateur
radio operator. At the time of this posting, he is still in a coma.
Susan Savage, the wife of the late Red Savage, W4RFR, is requesting
anyone who can climb assist her with some tower work. Jerry agreed
to look into it and see if he can help her.
Vollie, club net manager, advised the state of the Net was down
somewhat, and wondered if the Net should be canceled for a while.
The Club voted to keep the net, but made some changes. The net will
remain on 146.580 MHz till February 2, and at 7:30 PM on Thursday
night
As of 2 February, the net will move to the 147.150 repeater, and the
time will change to 7 PM on Thursday night.
On 25 February, the Local Emergency Planning Committee will be
hosting a Community Emergency Preparedness Fair, from 11 am till 3
pm, at the Dickson Fairgrounds. Several organizations will have
information booth set-up, including the National Weather Service,
TEMA, and etc. Landon advised himself and Vollie will represent the
ACS with a demonstration of amateur radio.
Jeff mentioned some of the upcoming contests. The NAQP SSB and
Minnesota QSO Party appeals to many of the members present
Jeff advised also, effective immediately, all weather nets will be
conducted on the 147.150 repeater. It has good county wide coverage,
and is not used very much. This will be the frequency until the
local repeaters can boost coverage and get back up and running on
full power.
Landon had no news or updates on his machine.
Jerry is attempting to get his machine back on the air, although it
may be on low power temporarily.
The National Weather Service will hold a SKYWARN training class on
27 February 2006, at the Renaissance Center in Dickson. The starting
time is 6:30 pm and should last about three hours.
The local Auxiliary Communication Service meets on the fourth Monday
of each month, unless otherwise noted. It meets at 7 pm at the
Recreational Building at the Fairgrounds.
Landon advises the Club’s web page is still down. Jerry advises he
is till working on it.
The Club funds stand at 440 dollars, after a 40 donation at the
meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 8:40 pm
