The meeting began with the reading of last month's meeting minutes by secretary Jeff, NY4N. They were approved as read.

The Fall picnic was discussed and a food and beverage list was passed around. The picnic is to be held at Lakeview Park on 15 October beginning at 6 PM.

Discussion was held on the Club's website. The Webmaster now, Evan, KG4ABM, has too many things going on with a job and school. He asked that his duties as webmaster be taken over by someone else. Jerry, KG4HDZ has volunteered to keep up the site.

The Club discussed its participation in the Tennessee QSO Party the day before, and its use of the Tennessee Contest Group's flagship call, K4TCG, Seems like everybody had fun, with over 600 contacts made in the seven hour contest. Band conditions were not that good, but improved somewhat toward the end of the contest. Becky, AF4QB, advised the group of a short six meter opening around 5-6 PM.

Charles, KN4HL, read an article in the Wall Street Journal about ham radio, Hurricane Katrina, and comments made about ham radio by radio companies. In general, the theme of the article stated that although ham radio may be slower than conventional cell and digital communications, when all else fails, amateur radio can and will get the job done.

Charles produced a video on Packet radio. It took a beginner's look at Packet, and provided some insight on how to get started. Charles has his own Packet network on board locally, using call KN4HL-1.

The Dickson County Amateur Radio Club will be holding a VE and a EM-COMM testing session on 15 October 2005 at the Renaissance Center, from 9 AM to 1 PM.

Discussion was held on the readiness of the local group in case of an emergency, and if a shelter needed to be set-up, would the Club have enough man-power to keep it on the air for 24 hours a day and for long periods of time.

Landon advised he is going to attend a Homeland Security meeting on 8 October in Memphis.
Charles brought up the idea of having your home stations ready for any type of emergency. Included were ideas on keeping fresh batteries charged, a emergency kit box with all the essentials, including a battery operated radio, first aid, matches/lighter and other items.

The Club funds stood at 325 dollars, after the purchase of 15 Field Day pins. Donations totaled 21 dollars, so the new Club balance stands at 346 dollars.

The meeting adjourned at 8:30 PM
