Old Business: VE sessions brought up by Tom, NN5A, He advised that the Three Rats ATS (Waverly) usually schedules Amateur Radio exam sessions quarterly (every three months). He wanted to know if the Dickson Club was interested in hosting a VE session in October and January 2006.

Charles had done some research and found that there were several VE sessions in the area for the next few weeks, but not many in August. Since Three Rats had not scheduled any VE sessions in October and January, the Club chose a date of 15 October to host both Amateur Radio and Em-Comm sessions. Jerry is supposed to check with the Renaissance Center to try to secure two rooms. The Exams will start around 10 AM with registration around 9 - 930 AM.

The Club did not decide, at this moment, to schedule for January 2006. The Club is trying to determine when the Gallatin hamfest will be held, so as not to conflict.

Jeff requested and was granted permission by the Club to purchase 250-500 Club QSL cards. The choice to do the printing was W4MPY. Vollie offered to pay for the cards out of his own pocket, but Club funds may also be used. Jeff expressed a desire to use the Club logo on any QSL's.

The Dickson County ARC posted its Field Day scores. Running 5-A battery, 5 watts, looks like a little over 500 Q's, 119 CW. With bonuses, this should give the Club a score of 4840. Discussion of poor band conditions and heat were brought up also.

The Three Rivers ATS also discussed their Field Day operations at the Humphreys €™ County Airport. Running 2-F class, and 100 watts, Three Rats amassed 807 contacts, 597 of which were CW. With bonuses, the Group should post a score of 3466 points.

Landon requested that a new Field Day Coordinator be in place for next year. He was to retire the position.

The Club agreed to purchase 17 Field Day pins, to be distributed to those who participated in Field Day. Becky was to handle the order.

There was a 30 dollar donation collected at Field Day in Dickson. It will be tallied with the funds gathered at the meeting.

Landon, who is trying to form an Auxiliary Communications Service, through the Citizen €™s Corp of the Local Emergency Planning Committee, advised the Club that he had reached an agreement with the City of Dickson Park €™s Department director Jeff Lewis, to use the old National Guard Armory ( Crosby Center ) as a Emergency Operations Center for the ACS.

He advised that the City of Dickson may give ownership and control of the building to the Dickson County Fair Board, but that should not present a problem for the ACS. This building would house emergency response gear, including radios, along with training facilities and office space for the ACS.

Per Vollie, the local training net is still in operation each Thursday at 7:30 PM. Per Landon, Skip was interested in taking a Net Control Duty one night a month, Landon advised he could have the night that he usually covered.

Discussion was brought up and tabled (next month) about the Simulated Emergency Test ( SET ) to be held in October***. Discussions of possible simulated emergencies scenarios will be discussed at that time.  *** Secretary €™s note. The SET will be held on Saturday 1 October, along with the California QSO Party contest. I suggest we plan our SET on the following weekend, 8 October. There is nothing in the rules stating that you have to have you SET on the assigned date.

Charles advises that he has a ham radio library at his office. Hams are welcome to come by and research or check out the books if they wish.

Charles also advised he hopes to have his packet Station up and running soon.

Charles advised that the FCC form 605 was changing around the 18 of July.

The remainder of the meeting centered around the building and use of the J-pole antenna. Two of the antennas were given away as door prizes. Jeff concurred that we needed several of these J-poles to use as emergency communication antennas, as they were easy to build, cheap, and worked well.

There was no money collected at the last meeting. The sum of 342.00 was carried over, and with 58 dollars collected at the meeting and at Field Day, the total now is an even 400 dollars.

The meeting terminated at 8:35 pm.
