September 2004 Minutes

There were 12 members in attendance at the September 6, 2004, meeting of the DCARC. They were Vollie. Bob, Bill, Bruce, Alice, Steve, Larry, Charles, Landon, Henry, Becky, and Jeff.

The Fall Picnic is on for October 16, 2004, at Lakeview Park in Dickson. Begin arriving at 5:30 pm, and we will eat around 6:00 PM. There will again be a white elephant sale to raise money for the club, so bring your items to auction off. Check with Vollie if you haven't signed up to bring a food item and he will make you aware of the items already on the list.

It was decided to have the December Christmas party at Buddy's Restaurant as our first choice, and Walnut Street Church of Christ as an alternate location. The club voted that on our regular scheduled Monday night would be acceptable for the party since it might be easier to reserve than a weekend. The tentative dates were December 6 as first choice and December 13 as a second. Larry Duke will check into reserving Buddy's.

Important dates to remember:
  • October 9 - VE session at First Bank in Waverly at 7:00 PM
  • October 18 - Skywarn class at Montgomery Bell Inn - 1:00 PM

Operation Goblin will be discussed at the picnic. With Halloween falling on Sunday this year, it is unclear if we will be patrolling on Saturday Oct. 30 rather than Sunday Oct 31. Jeff will check with Chief Chandler to see which he prefers.

Congratulations Allison McCutchen for obtaining your Tech license in Huntsville. We're proud of you.

Charles made mention of the extensive work former club member Richard Anderson did during the recent hurricane disasters in Florida. It seems that the ham radio operators came through when FEMA units were having technical difficulties. Richard put in many 14 hour days. Great work Richard. This shows the importance of practicing emergency communications.

Jeff gave a report on the TN QSO party. We had one of our better scores despite storms in the area. The CA QSO party will be a big one which will be on October 2.

Steve told us that there a 42 test sites for BLP. Six sites are going to install without even testing. There are three different types of BLP currently be tested.

Landon said in order to make more repeaters available in a given area, SERA is making mandatory toning.

Landon will secure the Renaissance Center for the November, January, and February meetings.

The Dickson Herald editor has decided to put more sports related articles in the upcoming editions of the Dickson Herald, so there will no longer be the Amateur Corner article.

The program consisted of each of the members telling something memorable which has happened to him or her since becoming a ham.
