July 2004 Minutes |
The July, 2004 meeting was held at the
Renaissance Center on Hwy 46 in Dickson, TN, on July 12, 2004 at
7:00 PM.
There were 13 members in attendance and one visitor. The members
were as follows: Ed Tilley, Toni Tilley, Jeff Clark, Becky Clark,
Henry Morris, Charles Seay, Jerry Lewis, Landon Reynolds, Larry
Duke, Bill Measures, Vollie Miller, Tom Kiel, & Steve Kennedy. The
visitor was Ralph Stanton - N4NHW.
The only new business that was brought up was the possibility of
setting up a special event station at the next Old Timers Day
celebration. Everyone seemed to like the idea.
Fall picnic plans were discussed. Tentative plans were made to
secure one of the local parks for October 16, 2004. Since this would
be on a Saturday when the majority of people do not work, a 5:30
time was mentioned but as yet not finalized. Jeff was asked to check
into the arrangements.
Discussion of the Christmas Party was deferred until a later
meeting.
Landon was going to check into reserving the Renaissance Center for
any upcoming meetings during the next three month period.
Vollie suggested organizing a committee to come up with ideas for
programs during the year. The club felt that this was a good idea.
The committee consists of Ed and Toni Tilley, Bill Measures, and
Steve Kennedy.
Jeff approached the club about being the flagship again this year
for the TQP. Each year the TN Contest Group allows a local club to
use the club call and represent our state. The club voted to try to
secure the call.
On Jerry's ARES update, He was very pleased with the fact that our
club came in first in TN during the latest SET. We more than doubled
the Davidson County group.
Steve said that BPL is still the hottest topic in the ARRL circle of
events lately. Also that the FCC is in the process of reconstructing
license qualifications.
We now have a new volunteer for net control on Thursday nights on
146.580. The volunteer is Larry Duke WD4GWG.
The meeting concluded with comments and opinions of Field Day for
this year. Most agreed that the weather conditions and propagation
were better than normal. Charles gave a big thumbs up for computer
logging programs, and Larry said that although he enjoyed himself,
he was a little disappointed that more club members did not
participate. We were all excited that Anna Smith from the government
office of Homeland Security attended our field day site.
Tom and Steve were also pleased with the Humphreys County field day
activities. Both the county executive and the fire chief came to
their field day site.
