Minutes 2000

June

In attendance: By callsign: KA8MRA, N4KKT, AF4QB, W4MGY, KG4FUP, KG4ABM, AD4EX, KN4HL, W4TDB, KF4TJE, NY4N. Hope I didn't forget anyone.

The main topic of the meeting was Field Day. Discussed topics was the Class we were to run, 4A, QRP was the power level, set-up of stations. The Friday evening cook-out was eliminated due to too much work after a long day building and installing antennas. It was agreed and voted on, and passed by the Club that if we needed any supplies, we could dip into the club till. Another hot topic about Field Day was the loan of a portable six meter rig from Peter, WC4S. With a three element beam to be brought out by Vollie, W4TDB, the club would get to use the band for the first time during FD. With the novice and VHF stations free additions to 4A, the Club set out to record our best scoring year ever. Other topics was the Fall picnic and the Christmas Party in December. Becky, club president, was to look into dates and advise the club back. There was a suggestion that the picnics in the future need to have more choices, this problem to be brought up in future meetings closer to the Fall fling. Club funds after the hat was passed around was $328.00.

July

In attendance:W4MGY, KG4FUP, KN4HL, AD4EX, K4TAF, W4TDB, N4KKT, NY4N, AF4QB.

The topic of discussion was the fact that the Club had set an all-time record in the 2000 Field Day by tallying over 1070 QSO's and scoring near 8350 points. This was the first time ever the Club earned over a 1000 Q's. AB4KX, Bryan, came out and gave us some CW support, and had several guest operators through the night. NY4N stated that he had lots of help setting up and taking down, Stan, Evan, and Richard there most of the time, just to name a few. Some time was spent talking about past Field Days. Other topics was getting tentative dates for the picnic, Christmas party. The other order of business was to elect Evan and John to a committee to look into getting the Club its own web page. After deducting $ 76.00 from the fund for Field Day expenses, and with the night's donations, the Club's fund held $273.00. Many thanks were issued to Becky and Landon for feeding the Club on Saturday Night of Field Day with pizza.

August

In attendance: KG4FUP, W4MGY, K4TAF, N4KKT, W4TDB, K4RXY, KF4TJE, KG4ABM, NY4N, AF4QB, Couple from White Bluff, both hams, I failed to get their names, sorry.
The first order of business was the ordering of flowers for Oma Wells' mother, who at 101, passed away. I met "mama" a couple of times, and her knowledge of baseball put me to shame. Tenative dates were set for the picnic and the Christmas Party. The picnic is to be the evening of 21 October, and the starting date was moved up to 6:00 due to the lateness of the year. The Christmas Party is to be held at Montgomery Bell Inn on 18 December. This is on a Monday night. I think the starting time is to be around 7:00 pm. All this should be hammered out in the September meeting. W4MGY advised the group that the NO4Q machine had been moved to McEwen, coverage in the Dickson area should be much better. Frequencies are 147.225 on two meters and 442.225 on 440. Steve advised they are open machines and also can be linked up to Six meters if needed. Evan announce the address for the new DCARC Web-page. www.dcarc.cjb.net. The Club's take in donations has not been counted at press time.

September
K4TAF, Paul; WB4NVO, Andrew; K4RXY, Bill; KF4MBY, Ed; KG4IWR, Toni; W4TDB, Vollie; N4KKT, Barry; Miss Linda Turner; W4CJD, Bob; AD4EX, Joyce; KN4HL, Charles; KG4FUP, Alice, W4MGY, Steve; WC4S, Peter; AF4QB, Becky; NY4N, Jeff.

The "Club House" was packed last club meeting and we introduced some new faces and an old friend. Ed and Toni Tilley was welcomed to our group, although they were at the previous meeting. Peter Randolph, WC4S, stopped in as one of the "old timers". The Club is glad to have all three present and part of the local "bunch".
The first order of business was the announcement of the Fall Picnic. It is to be held at the Pavillion ( I believe it is called Lake Woodhaven?) on October 21 at 6:00 PM. The date was moved up due to the lateness of the year. Set-up will most likely begin around 5:30. Food choices were discussed and most everyone committed to something. If you need directions, check in on KN4HL's repeater, 147.375, up 600, for talk in.The next discussion brought up the annual Christmas Party at Montgomery Bell Inn. The date for it is December 21 at 6:00, check 6:00 pm. (i think I said 7:00 PM earlier). I believe the cost per meal is around $10.00 per person, but after the feast we had last year, it is well worth it. I believe kids get in free or at least a large discount, check with Becky for the particulars. With this being the Club's 10th year, it was brought up and passed that the Club apply for its own call. Basicly, we were looking for a prefix to the suffix ( 4DC ), 4 Dickson County, and since the availablity of 1X2's and 2 X 1's are hard to come by, it was decided to go with a 2 X 2 call. For example, we need two letter prefix to go with 4DC.
Several were brought up. Vollie suggested AR4DC, or Amateur Radio 4 Dickson County. Majority that expressed an opinion liked it. Others were WB4DC, WC4DC, KB4DC and others. All the above are available. There are several other prefixes available, so pick one you like. One should be picked at the October Picnic. Also, it doesn't have to be suffix 4DC, but the suffix would kind of go with the spirit of the Club. Also, an idea was brought up to come up with some type of Club logo. Those who are getting new QSL cards or other uses might want to express the fact that they are members of DCARC. Any ideas are welcome and may also be displayed at the Picnic.
Charles, KN4HL, will soon get with the Chief of Police in Dickson and set up the meeting for Operation Goblin this year. Look for an anouncement on the webpage on when and were the meeting is going to be held. If this is your first time participating in Goblin, you are urged to attend this meeting.
A bunch of the local hams have been having breakfast on Saturday mornings around 8:30 AM at Vetters Cafe in White Bluff, (I think it used to be called the "Whipper Snapper" ). Everyone is invited to come by and meet with the gang.
The meeting ended around 8:35, some made the Shoney's run, some had to go nappy time.

October
Not alot of business done at the October Fall Picnic. Would like to thank everyone for coming. Like usual, nice food, nice fun, nice evening. Just a reminder, the Operation Goblin meeting will be held at the Municipal Bldg. (city council chambers) at 6 pm on halloween night. All that are going to participate need to be at the meeting, and jot down your tag number to be given to dispatch and road officers. The Club will need to appoint a dispatcher to come in Police dispatch and operate the radio. I will not be able to due to my work schedule for the evening. I will advise Lt. Nichols and Sgt Martin that there may be a dipatcher from the Club inside the radio room. Also, something that operation Goblin participants may look for this year. The trend this year in pranks is setting hay bales on fire. Although won't be many in the City, something to look for, especially where used in Haloween decorations. Also, the application for the Club call has been sent in. Have not received a call as of yet. After a club call is issued, then we can apply for a vanity. Just waiting for the paperwork to be completed by the FCC. This year's take on the white elephant sale has not been counted, but will be available for the November meeting.

November

As you can see the club was well represented. Some old faces graced the forum. Since this was the last business meeting of the 2000 calendar, several things were brought up and voted on.
* The Club was approached by the National Weather Service office in Nashville to help provide communications in their second annual National Weather Service Special Event scheduled for the 1st and 2nd of December. The Club voted NOT to participate.
* The 2000 Field Day results were furnished, and the Club finished second in the nation this year in 4A battery. Becky and Jeff provided Field Day 2000 pins for all who helped set-up and operate. They were passed out to qualifing members.
* It was voted on by the Club to host a VE Test/exam session sometime in the Spring. A tentative date was set for 7 April, 2001. This is on a Saturday night at 7 pm. Walk-ins will be allowed for this one.
* The Club voted on and approved to host a SKYWARN weather service training class sometime in January or February. The particulars to be announced.
* The Club voted to do away with the ARES part of the local Emergency Communications Plan, and thus not to fund the EC position. The Club felt like membership in the local DIckson County Emergency Management Agency would be suffice to handle our local needs.
* For those who need to be added to the EMA list, one must have a EMA card. Those new members who do not have a card can get their picture made at the Christmas Party. Vollie offered to use his digital camera to do the job. Cards will be obtained from the local EMA office and the pictures attached.
* The Club Christmas Party will be held at the Montgomery Bell Inn on December 18, 2000, at 6 pm. Last year's gathering was wonderful, so be sure to bring family members and come celebrate.
* The status on the Club Call has been delayed. I was not aware of the new TIN # (taxpayer id number) and the new ULS (universal license system) procedures. I have since re-educated myself and have re-applied. Hopefully by next meeting, we should know something.
* The Club funds, after flowers were sent to Florida for our past Club Member and silent key Bill Helwig, WK4F, was $162.44. This doesn't count collections taken at the meeting.

Unlike Florida, I certify these minutes to accurate and true. Jeff NY4N.

December

Was not alot of minutes at the meeting. Got to a late start due to bad weather, but we counted 19 hams at the meeting, plus three little ones. Just for the record, the Club has its first call, KG4KSN, and the paperwork has been sent in for the vanity AR4DC call. Should be issued just after the first of the year.
Hope all in the Club has a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. 2001 should be a great year.
