From: DB2OS @ DB0FD.#NDS.DEU.EU (Peter) To: AMSAT @ DL Aufgrund des anwachsenden Drucks der Afu-™ffentlichkeit und verschiedener Medien, hat Swatch offenbar das Projekt "beatnik" aufgegeben und dazu auf der Homepage eine Erkl„rung abgeliefert. (siehe auch http://www.swatch.com) Leider kein Wort der Entschuligung oder Einsicht, stattdessen fadenscheinige und unglaubwrdige Erkl„rungen. So habe man angeblich die Batterien aus dem Sputnik nun den Kosmomauten geschenkt, damit sie einen wichtigen "Drucker" in der MIR-Station weiterbetreiben k”nnen. Angeblich sei auch ein wichtiger Kommunikationslink zusammengebrochen, sodaá sie die Nachrichten nicht in den "beatnik" (ex RS-19) laden konnten. Von AMSAT-F, welche die Elektronik fr den RS-19 gebaut hatte, war jedoch zu erfahren, daá alle Sprachmeldungen auf der Erde vorher in ein EPROM gebrannt werden mssen. Auch gibt es keinerlei Uplink zum Satelliten, wie von manchen Stellen gemeldet wurde. Ein Austausch von Nachrichten alle 24h war berhaupt nicht m”glich. Nunja, jeder kann sich seinen Teil denken und es ist erstaunlich, mit welchen Mitteln mancher versucht sein Gesicht zu wahren. Wichtig ist aber fr uns nur, daá dieser kommerzielle Piratensender verhindert wurde und wohl so schnell auch keinen Nachahmer finden wird. By deceiving AMSAT organizations in Russia and France, the Russian SCSC (Space Flight Control Centre) in cooperation with the Swatch company had arranged to use the two meter Amateur band for direct advertising via the "Beatnik" satellite (a mini-Sputnik-99 project formerly to be known as RS-19) across the entire world. Thanks to the protests of my fellow radio amateurs worldwide, Swatch has cancelled the mission to use the frequency of 145.815 to advertise their trademarks from space! Thanks to everyone who helped spread the word and let Swatch and other companies know that intrusions on the amateur bands will not be tolerated. Although the call-off message on their web site is something of a cop out, the result of our efforts is plainly evident. We've proven again that the fight to preserve and enjoy our amateur radio spectrum is a good one.
